Engage, ignite, achieve

Dear YMCA Friends,

You’ve heard the Y mission to provide programs that foster a healthy mind, body and spirit for all...but, did you know that has been the original mission of the YMCA since it was founded, as a non-profit, in 1851?

It’s hard to be over 160 years old and still have a purpose that transcends the test of time and has meaning for individuals of all ages.  But in 2017, whether you are one year old or 101, we stand behind that mission to help you reach your health and wellness goals.

The YMCA has so many new and fun classes and programs at our 14 branch locations.  Try one out today!

- Y Weight loss program - This is a great way to learn how to eat healthier, move more and lose weight. There are no gimmicks and no restrictive approaches - just the tools you need to make the necessary changes in your lifestyle to achieve your health and wellness goals.
- Boga Fit and Boga Yoga
- Fun, fitness classes in the pool, where you will find yourself being challenged in a new way while on the unstable surface of the BOGA FiTMAT.
- In-Trinity® Strong - A stronger twist to our In-Trinity® classes, using an elevated fitness board to build strength, balance, and flexibility, coordination and agility.
- Water in Motion - This water class introduces fun and easy dance combinations, set to popular music that gets you moving and your heart pumping!
- Fun Family Friday Nights - Free family nights are back on Friday's in February and March! Each Y is open to the community each Friday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Bring your family and friends for a night of healthy, fun actitivites.

Being a member of our Y has so many benefits and rewards! Through our partnership with UC, Y members can take advantage of the 4 for 48 offer. You will get four tickets AND $20 for the concessions for their game on Sunday, January 29 at 4 p.m. The Bearcats host South Florida. Visit gobearcats.com/tickets and use the promo code: YMCA

Whether you are a new member of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati or have been with us forever, I hope you will partner with us in 2017 to help you feel better, get active and achieve your health and wellness goals. Our dedicated and enthusiastic team can’t wait to help.  We are here for you.

Happy 2017!

Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. Nearly 14 million people in the Unites States today are cancer survivors, living with, through and beyond the diagnosis. Recent studies note that exercise plays a big role, physically and mentally, for cancer survivors.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is an evidence-based program; goals of the program are to empower adult cancer survivors to improve functional capacity and to increase their quality of life through an organized program of fitness and strength.

According to the U.S. Small Business Association, mentoring has enormous benefits for our youth. It can be a powerful factor in reducing disconnects from school and work, in increasing social and economic mobility, and in creating more productive and prosperous communities. Mentored youth are:

  • 55% more likely to be enrolled in college than those who did not have a mentor
  • 81% more likely to report participating regularly in sports or extracurricular activities
  • More than twice as likely to say they held a leadership position in a club or sports team
  • 78% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities

For mentors themselves, the mentoring relationship with a young person provides a shared opportunity for learning and growth.
