Congratulations to our Junior Members of the Month Manuel and Angel McMenemy! Month and Angel were born in Cereté, Colombia. Five years ago (2013), they were adopted by the McMenemy family. At 11 and 7, they had to adjust to a whole new family, country, language and lifestyle. It was a good transition, but difficult. Everything was so, so different. Their love of the water led the family to put them in swim lessons with Jan Strittholt so they could be safe and independent in the water. She worked with them for a year to teach them how to swim. After they got the basics of freestyle and backstroke, they wanted to be on a swim team with their two sisters. They were welcomed with open arms onto a summer team and the PCY Tigersharks. Becoming members of the Y and joining the swim team has paid off immensely. The boys have found their happy place. Whether playing in the waterpark with friends, swimming competitively alongside their teammates, or dancing to rockin’ music in water Zumba, one will typically find them with big smiles on their faces. The Y is a place where they feel encouraged, where they feel challenged, and where they accomplish skills. But more importantly, it is a place where they belong, are accepted, and loved! They feel this when they are greeted by name at the door, cheered for in a meet, given a high-five or standing ovation after a race, talked to by the lifeguards, and hugged by a coach! Being a part of the Y has truly helped their transition. We are so blessed to have these two at PCY!

Our #VoteTogether party was an absolute blast! Kicked the day off with donuts and coffee, and ended it with chili and custard for our voters! Our hallways were coated in a beautiful display of the diverse reasons why our voters want their voices to be heard. As for the election results... Coke seems to have beat Pepsi by a landslide! Which would you vote for?

The diversity of beliefs, backgrounds, and views of our community is what makes us beautiful. Imagine how boring life would be if we all felt the same way and shared identical views... THERE IS BEAUTY IN OUR DIFFERENCES. The Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA is a proud partner of #VoteTogether today! We are hosting an epic voting party all day to celebrate what a joy it is to vote for what we believe in. What a wonderful thing to celebrate today...
