Engage, ignite, achieve

Dear YMCA Friends –

Now that the kids are settling into school and the fall schedules, we will join you in a big sigh.  What a transition!  The Y, like so many of you, has exerted lots of energy and leadership to ramp up and welcome over 4,000 students every day back to school in our 60 plus afterschool child care enrichment sites.  We also are delighted to support and nurture 650 early learners through our YMCA’s early learning programs.  If you know of a child or family that needs a partner for child care, please remind them of the Y’s quality programs.  We also still have a few positions for educators and aids who want to work in the Y’s quality system.  We are here to support children and their families all along their learning journey, while giving parents the peace of mind that their child is safe, learning and growing with the Y, while they work to support their family.

Often, a frequent reminder tip when clocks need to be changed in the fall is to “fall back”.  That’s fine for your watch, but at the Y we are “falling forward” into some great and important programs this season:

United Way is an important partner with the Y and many other agencies supporting people throughout our community.  Please consider supporting United Way through your workplace or contact us and be a part of our United Way effort.  The YMCA is grateful to receive almost $800,000 annually from United Way to support children’s programs for those that need us most throughout the region.  Please join us and support this year’s United Way campaign.

The Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program is joined this fall with the Y’s Weight Management program.  Check them both out and find out which one is right for you, if you need to get on track with weight, activity and nutrition.  We all need a little help from our friends to be our best.  The Y is here to support you.

New this fall, the Y is expanding family programs and launching our new partnership with Interact for Health – Family Fun Nights.  What a great way to relax together and enjoy all the Y has to offer.  Bring a family of friends with you will have a blast.

So, that’s why I say the Y is “falling forward” this season – supporting our community, offering more ways to join and support you on your healthy path and lots of new fun for families.  It sure makes it easier when the weather turns cooler, to have the Y in your life and in your neighborhood to keep you moving and enjoying time together.

As always, thanks for being part of the Y –

Strengthening the Cincinnati community – where we live, work and play – is our cause. Lasting personal and social change only comes about when we all work together. The Y is proud of our partnership with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and thankful for their support.

True partnerships are strongest when the two parties come together to identify a win-win solution.

When Gwendolyn Madaris, 62, was first diagnosed as a pre-diabetic by her doctor, she felt nervous. “I didn’t know that you could be pre-diabetic,” said Gwendolyn.  “I thought you were either a diabetic or not, but I knew I didn’t want to be a diabetic.”

Gwen’s cousin, Peggy Harris, told her about the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. Peggy was already enrolled in an upcoming class and encouraged Gwen to look into the program. “Ryan, from HealthCare Access Now, reached out to me to let me know that I qualified to be in the pre-diabetes class because of a partnership between the YMCA and HealthCare Access Now,” said Gwendolyn.
