T-BALL
Grab your glove and let’s play ball! The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati t-ball league (ages 4-5) is a program that was developed to teach young baseball players the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn the basics of t-ball in this great introductory sport. Participants will learn how to catch, throw, and bat off a hitting tee in a fun team atmosphere. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play t-ball in a non-competitive environment. This is a staff/coach led game without any officials. T-ball is a stepping stone to the next level of baseball. Each participant will receive a game jersey and hat.

BASEBALL
Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), and regular baseball (9-12) are designed to develop fundamental baseball skills, while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills taught include catching, throwing, fielding, and hitting. Each participant will receive a game jersey and hat.

BASKETBALL

Did you know basketball was invented at the Y? In 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a clergyman, educator and physician in Massachusetts, created an indoor “athletic distraction” to keep rowdy youth busy in the cold New England winter months. Dr. Naismith decided the game had to be physically active, simple to understand and would have minimal physical roughness.  The original game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets nailed to the balcony of the Springfield YMCA in Massachusetts.

Participants in YMCA of Greater Cincinnati youth sports programs build skills, learn about teamwork, and focus on sportsmanship preparing them for key milestones on their developmental journey.

AGES 3-4 | COED BASKETBALL
For our youngest players, we focus on introducing the game of basketball and basic ball handling skills like passing, dribbling and shooting. Coaches and officials take an active role in teaching at this level. 6-foot goals and smaller balls are used. Teams will rotate through skill stations for approximately 30 minutes directly before each scrimmage game.

AGES 5-6 | COED BASKETBALL
Children at this level continue to develop basic skills and begin to learn the rules of the game. The primary focus is on offense and ball handling and coaches and officials emphasize learning throughout the game. One-on-one defense is introduced. 8-foot goals and 27.5 inch balls are used. In the winter, teams have one weeknight practice and one game each week.

AGES 7-8 | COED BASKETBALL
With a continued focus on fundamental skills like ball-handling and shooting technique, coaches choose their own defense at this level. We use a 27.5 inch ball and teams play full court on 8 foot goals. In the winter, teams will have one weeknight practice and one game each week.

AGES 9-12 | COED BASKETBALL
Teamwork is emphasized in this age bracket and passing, shooting and defensive skills are strengthened. Coaches choose their own defense with limited pressing. A 27.5 inch ball, a ten-foot goal and teams play full court. Teams will have one practice and one game each week. All basketball rules apply.

Consequently, specific skills must be achieved before students move to the next level. Due to the difficulty of certain skills, children will not always move on after one session of instruction. Please note that class offerings may differ by location.
