Building and Strengthening Community: Celebrating PRIDE Month

We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming community FOR ALL.

At the Y, Pride Month is another opportunity to live our mission: ‘Building and Strengthening Community’. It is because of our mission that we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming community FOR ALL.

The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. Together, we work to ensure that everyone—all abilities, ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, faiths, gender identities, ideologies, incomes, nationalities, origins, races, and sexual orientations—is treated equitably. We do this by building inclusive and joyful environments where all people can reach goals, make friends, and connect to a cause greater than themselves.

We stand with the LGBTQIA+ community here in Greater Cincinnati and across our country in opposing bigotry and discrimination. It is only when we stand together against all forms of hate that we can move from being detractors and competitors, to becoming neighbors and friends.

The first public Pride celebration in Cincinnati was held at Fountain Square, April 6-8, 1973. The gay rights movement was just getting underway after the Stonewall raid and riots in 1969. There were only around 40 people at that first Cincinnati event; 40 brave men and women opening hearts and minds in our community. Forty-nine years later, Cincinnati Pride includes a parade and festival on June 25, along with events for the entire month of June (and beyond).

There are many ways to get involved! If you would like to volunteer for Cincinnati Pride, you can register by clicking here. Learn more about Cincinnati Pride by checking out their calendar. A few upcoming events:
