Building Belonging Together

The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. Together, we work to ensure that everyone—of all abilities, ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, faiths, gender identities, ideologies, incomes, nationalities, origins, races, or sexual orientations—has the chance to belong. We do this by building inclusive and joyful environments where all people can reach goals, make friends, and connect to a cause greater than themselves.

Advocacy

We stand for and champion causes that align with our mission.

Leadership Development

We aggressively and intentionally develop culturally competent leaders.

Organizational Stewardship

We value accountability and empower people to influence structure and culture.

Partnerships

We learn and lead with partner organizations.

Programs and Membership

We create inviting programs and memberships that meet needs and build a sense of belonging.

OUR WORK

  1. We create safe space for staff and members to share and learn: Strategies like the Boys and Young Men of Color Initiative. We also offer the following Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) open to staff and the community:
    • Multi-Cultural Affinity Group, Women’s ERG, Young Professionals ERG, Christian Principles ERG
  2. We host trainings, workshops, and experiences: Our Courages Spaces series explains how people are often held back by things outside their control and educates our community.
  3. We provide a platform to share progress and communicate efforts:  The Better Us Initiative gathers, measures, and shares progress with the staff, volunteers, members, and community.  This committee is dedicated to providing ongoing efforts to improve our culture.

We appreciate your feedback and participation in our ongoing work to build a better community for all.  For more information on joining an ERG, starting your own group, training resources for your staff, or joining The Better Us Committee, contact Sam Mosby.
