Volunteer of the Year:
Roni Crum

Board Member, Pickleball Leader & Special Events

Roni has been a dedicated volunteer at the Highland County YMCA for four years, with her biggest responsibility serving as a committed and active board member. For Roni, leadership means more than just attending meetings—it means being physically present and fully engaged in the work that supports the Y’s mission. She believes in staying active and offering her help wherever needed, whether it’s organizing events or simply being an extra set of hands to ensure kids are safe.

As a former teacher, Roni’s passion for creating a nurturing environment is evident. She chose to volunteer at the Y because, as she puts it, “once a teacher, always a teacher.” She desires to create a space where families can grow, get involved, and feel supported. The joy the Y brings to families is important to her, and she loves seeing people from all walks of life come together to meet their physical, mental, and social needs—addressing the whole person.

From leading the charge on the yearly donation campaign to helping at events like Easter egg hunts and trunk-or-treat, and organizing creative activities like the drum circle, Roni’s commitment shines through. Her support also extends to community outreach, from the Big Give Cleanup to the Pride Festival. Roni’s love for the YMCA and the families it serves is at the heart of everything she does, making her a true blessing to the community.

Congratulations Roni on being selected as Highland County YMCA’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year!
