Building confident, resilient kids—one skill at a time.

Healthy Futures is a fun, interactive program designed to help elementary-aged students build the skills they need to navigate life with confidence, make healthy decisions, and form strong relationships.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Healthy Futures is a 10-session, skill-building program delivered in short, engaging lessons that fit seamlessly into the school day or after-school programming.

Each session is 30 minutes and designed to meet students where they are through movement, creativity, discussion, and real-life application.

This program has been adapted and piloted with students ages 6–18 and continues to evolve based on student feedback, community needs, and evidence-based prevention practices.

Through hands-on activities and meaningful conversations, students build skills in:

Confidence & Self-Esteem

Students learn to recognize their strengths, build a positive inner voice, and feel proud of who they are.

Emotional Awareness & Coping Skills

Students identify emotions and practice healthy ways to manage stress and big feelings.

Communication & Relationships

Students learn how to express themselves clearly, listen to others, and build positive peer connections.

Peer Influence & Media Awareness

Students explore how peers, media, and advertising influence their choices, and how to think critically and stay true to themselves.

Decision-Making & Problem Solving

Students practice slowing down, thinking through choices, and making healthy decisions.

HOW IT WORKS

Each Healthy Futures session includes:

  • A quick warm-up or community-building activity
  • Guided discussion
  • A hands-on, interactive activity
  • Reflection or exit ticket

Students are actively practicing real-life skills in a safe, supportive environment.

What We’re Working On

Since launching in 2025, Healthy Futures has:

  • Reached over 350 students across multiple YMCA partner sites
  • Achieved 98% program satisfaction
  • Helped students:
  • Increase their knowledge and awareness of topics covered (98%)
  • Build stronger peer relationships (90%)
  • Connect more meaningfully with their teachers and safe adults (91%)

Students consistently report feeling more connected, more capable, and more prepared to navigate everyday challenges.

Evidence & Research

Healthy Futures is grounded in research-backed prevention models, including the Botvin LifeSkills and Too Good prevention curricula.

Programs like these have been shown to:

  • Improve self-esteem and communication
  • Strengthen decision-making skills
  • Reduce risk-taking behaviors when delivered consistently

We take these proven strategies and make them engaging, accessible, and relevant for today’s students.
