Our Youth Soccer Program
At YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, our Youth Soccer program is built to meet kids where they are, even if this is their first time on the field. Players are separated into different groups based on age: 3-5, 6-7, and 8-9. Sessions typically include a mix of skill-building activities and short, age-appropriate games. Younger players will be introduced to soccer fundamentals, while older players will develop their personal and team skills such as passing, shooting, and dribbling.
Here at the Y, Youth Soccer is about enjoying the game, building confidence, and developing skills at a pace that feels right for each child. Everyone plays, every game – our priority is to help young athletes participate, learn, and grow with their team.
Soccer Skills & Development
Young players will learn and practice these essential soccer skills in a supportive, low-pressure environment:
- Dribbling: How to control the ball while moving confidently.
- Passing: How to share the ball with teammates.
- Shooting: The best techniques to kick toward the goal.
- Trapping: How to stop and control the ball.
- Goalie Basics: Guarding the goal from the other team’s ball.
- Positions & Game Flow: Where to be on the field and how the game works.
Our coaches are encouraging to help young athletes learn without fear of making mistakes or losing the game. We focus on training skills in a supportive environment where good sportsmanship and hard work are more important than always winning.
