Your Safety is our Priority
At the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, the safety of members, program participants, and staff is our highest priority.
We are implementing a new tool which will warn us of nearby lightning strikes. If you're headed to the pool and are unsure of the status, visit this page to see when we last had an alert or look for green, you're good to go.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Outdoor pools, water fronts and activities will be suspended immediately when there is lightning within 6 miles. Members and participants should seek shelter in their personal vehicles, and watch our website to see when the pools and sporting events will resume. Suspension will end 30 minutes after the last sign of lightning.
RAIN/WIND
Heavy rain can make it difficult to see the bottom of the pool or beneath the surface. If heavy rain causes bottom obstruction, pools will be cleared and swimming will be halted until the rain lets up. Winds can also cause safety hazards. If wind is observably strong or gusty and causes bottom obstruction due to rippling, swimmers will be cleared from pools until the bottom is visible.
INDOOR POOLS
The indoor pools, water parks, and pool decks at all YMCA of Greater Cincinnati locations will close during thunderstorms, when there is a lightning strike within 6 miles of their locations, if there is a power outage and when a tornado warning has been issued in the area. All members and staff will receive instruction for the safest location inside the facility while the area is under a tornado warning. All indoor pool suspensions will end 30 minutes after the last lightning strike, once the tornado warning is lifted, or when the power is restored and a check of pool pumps is complete.
