R.C. Durr YMCA nominated Catie Childers for her volunteer service for the Barracuda Swim Team over the past 5 years. Catie has many passions, including maintaining her family’s farm, helping others, and especially raising her kids and teaching them life skills. Her favorite part of volunteering is “When I see the smiles on the kids’ faces enjoying activities that wouldn’t occur unless volunteers existed. Knowing that I play a small part in allowing a kid the opportunity to swim competitively and to form new lifelong friendships is really what it’s all about.” Catie and her family love the Y; she says, “This place is a second home. It’s an amazing place to be a part of.” They utilize many services, such as child care, summer camps, the fitness center, and swim team. Over the years, they have formed many valuable relationships with other members and Y staff. Ultimately, Catie says, “I pray that my children follow in our footsteps and give back to this great community that we’ve called our home away from home.” THANK YOU, Catie, for your dedication and service to the Y community and for sharing your values of volunteering with your family!
