Bill and Diane are an extraordinary team who have brought the pickleball community together with their boundless energy and passion. Bill has played a key role in starting the pickleball programs at Campbell YMCA and has influenced other branches as they start up programs too. He worked closely with Nick Heiss to develop a plan to bring pickleball to Campbell, researching everything from the best ways to play and leading to the type of tape needed to transform the basketball court for pickleball. His efforts have shaped top tier pickleball practices and programs, and his orientation sessions for newcomers at Campbell have introduced over 200 people to the game, making them feel right at home.
Diane has been equally impactful, as a shining light wherever she goes. Once pickleball started to catch on, she jumped in and joined Bill in coordinating the play. Diane always goes above and beyond not only to see pickleball thrive but also to support our entire YMCA community. Her presence lights up any room, and she is instrumental in the success of our pickleball small group. Diane is the most welcoming person in the gym, constantly ensuring everyone is having a great time. If anyone isn’t, she addresses their concerns immediately, truly embodying the “for all” spirit of our mission.
Together, Bill and Diane have created a vibrant and inclusive pickleball community. They unite people from all walks of life—members, veterans, cancer support groups, and others looking to improve their health in body, mind, and spirit. Their dedication ensures the Y is more than just a place to play; it’s a place to heal, grow, and belong. We are so fortunate to have them on our team!
Congratulations Bill and Diane on being selected as Campbell County Y’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year!
